Philly budget boosts police funding while slashing anti-violence programs

Mayor Jim Kenney is proposing to decimate the city’s main civilian police oversight board and a string of anti-violence programs while funneling nearly $23 million in new funds to law enforcement. Philly bail funds raise $1.6 million as protests continue

Two Philly nonprofits that bail out people who can’t afford it have raised a collective $1.8 million since protests erupted across the city on Friday in the wake of George Floyd’s killing. Pennsylvania’s newest COVID-19 small business relief program is here

On Monday, June 8, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced a new slate of funding going towards small businesses across the state affected by both COVID-19 and its subsequent shutdown worth $225 million. The funds, which come from the state’s $2.6 billion allocation from the federal CARES Act, will be for eligible businesses to cover operating costs during the shutdown, to help them as they reopen and for other guidance and training services for business owners. | From: AL DÍA (Read more.)
